Renowned for its challenging play as well as its beauty, this prestigious course hosted the United States Golf Association (USGA) 2006 U.S. Senior Open Championship. Prairie Dunes was also the site of the USGA 2002 U.S. Women’s Open Championship. Designed by the legendary Perry Maxwell and sculpted into the rolling sand hills northeast of Hutchinson in 1936, the result is both charming and treacherous. Tom Watson, an honorary member of Prairie Dunes, describes the course as "A touch of Scotland in the land of Oz, sunflowers instead of heather, oceans of grain instead of the sea." Prairie Dunes is ranked 24th nationally by Golf Digest and 25th worldwide by Golf Magazine. In addition, the eighth hole was named "The best eighth hole in the country" By Sports Illustrated.

For 10 days each September, Hutchinson is home to the largest event in Kansas - the Kansas State Fair, where visitors will find good old-fashioned fun. The Fair features over 280-acres of the best of Kansas' agriculture, livestock and commerce, as well as live entertainment. The agrarian heritage of Kansas is saluted with numerous livestock shows, crop exhibits and farm equipment displays. A wide range of domestic arts, floriculture, crafts and professional arts are displayed as well. An innovative education program for teachers to bring their classes offers an experience like no other. The fairground facilities provide an appealing and functional setting for more than 250 events annually including: auto races, flea markets, livestock shows, the Mennonite Relief Sale, motor coach conventions and trade shows.

When you're in Hutchinson, do as the Hutchonians so - Visit Salt City Splash Aquatic Center. This public waterpark offers four pools, a picnic area, dressing rooms, lockers, concessions and lots of shaded areas. The Tiny Tot Pool (for ages 7 and under) is a nine-inch deep wading pool. The Splash Pool is a zero-depth-entry to three-foot deep pool that features a variety of interactive water fixtures. The Plunge Pool features two water slides. The 50-Meter lap pool is the largest pool and offers eight lanes for competitive swim meets. It also offers basketball goals, springboard diving and a drop slide.

Since 1931, this theatre has been a fixture in downtown Hutchinson. The Fox made a comeback in 1999 following an extensive restoration and is now a center for art, entertainment and education. Designated the State Movie Palace of Kansas, the Fox is one of the finest examples of theater art deco architecture in the Midwest. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Fox has established an annual season of live performances including Broadway-caliber performances, as well as a classic film series.
