Step into Old Town St. Charles and you'll be viewing a town that looks much as it did when Louis and Clark knew it. The 1804 expedition met here, and it was also the first state capital for Missouri. For a view of the Missouri River - nicknamed ‘Big Muddy, ’ take the St. Charles Princess for an evening cruise, or venture to one of the showboats anchored along the shoreline.
Indulge in a tasty retreat off one of America's most famous highways – the Eat-Rite Diner of Route 66. The site, recently refurbished for Hampton hotels' Save-A-Landmark® program, was built around 100 years ago as a coffee shop for railroad crews. In 1940, it became the ‘Eat-Rite Diner’ and coined its motto, ‘Eat-Rite or don't eat at all.’ Today, its ‘early’ rock & roll-friendly atmosphere and delicious burgers – served at a chrome bar with counter stools only (no tables), make it a veritable time capsule of the 1950s. Hampton hotel volunteers painted the building to help restore it to its former glory. You will find all this and more things to do in St. Charles, MO.
