A major entertainment facility for Western North Carolina, the Asheville Civic Center hosts several dramas, music performances, pageants, conventions and festivals per year in its Thomas Wolfe Auditorium. Mountain peaks bound the property's visual perimeters and 1.8 miles of the Bent Creek stream run through the center of the Arboretum. For the past 15 years, gingerbread architects and artists have been drawn to the National Gingerbread House Competition held annually in Asheville. This unique and delightful competition has become a favorite holiday tradition, with over 300 hopeful entrants from points near and far for 2007. The competition is divided into three categories: adults, teens and youth. The charming gingerbread creations may be viewed by the public Monday through Thursday until early January. In mid December, the Grand Prize winning entry and a selection of other entries will be transported to New York City to appear on Good Morning America. If you have a chance to visit Asheville during the holidays, an outing to admire the charming display is sure to add plenty of smiles to your holidays.
