Our history dates back to 1736, when Thomas Penn and Benjamin Eastburn selected our city site at the meeting of the Delaware and Lehigh rivers. The Native Americans called the area “Lechawitauk” or “Place at the Forks,” and the area around our hotel in Easton soon became a popular meeting place. In fact, it was here that the Declaration of Independence was read on July 8, 1776. You can still see much of our early history at places such as Bachmann Tavern, built in 1753, or the Easton Public Library, organized in 1811. For culture, catch a live performance at the State Theatre, a beaux arts building that seats 1,545 people. Lastly, music fans should drop by the C. F. Martin Guitar Factory in Nazareth. You'll see guitars dating back to 1833 and see how Martins are made.
Book your room today at the Hampton Inn® hotel in Easton, and when you arrive, drop by the front desk for advice on how to enjoy all our amazing Pennsylvania town has to offer.
