Our Old Town Alexandria hotel sits on property that was originally a 6,000-acre land grant to an English ship captain, Robert Howson, in 1669. We'd have been called "Howsonia" had not the good captain traded the land for 6,000 pounds of tobacco to John Alexander. We love that kind of history around here, which is why, when you walk around Alexandria's Old Town District, you'll see carefully preserved buildings such as Alexandria City Hall - a structure that dates back to 1871.
For a really wild architectural juxtaposition, visit Woodlawn and Frank Lloyd Wright's Pope-Leighey House - both built on the same property, 135 years apart.
You can also visit President George Washington's estate, Mount Vernon, which sits mere minutes from our hotel in Alexandria. See the mansion, meadows and sweeping views of the Potomac River. The president was memorialized at the Old Presbyterian Meeting House, built in 1775. George Washington and Robert E. Lee were both members of nearby Christ Church, a National Historic Landmark that was completed in 1773.
In addition to these historical landmarks, our Old Town Alexandria hotel is also conveniently located just minutes from the White House, National Mall, Smithsonian Museums, and several other Washington DC attractions. Check out our Alexandria deals and begin exploring today.
