When William Byrd was surveying the boundary between North Carolina and Virginia in 1728, he came upon the area around the Hampton Inn Danville and remarked that people would one day live here, "with much comfort and gaiety of Heart." Sure enough, with many things to do in Danville, VA, the city has become a favorite of visitors. Perhaps the first tourists were Revolutionary War veterans, who came here for the excellent fishing on the Dan River. Today, you can still catch rainbow trout, brown trout, catfish, largemouth bass, striped bass and sunfish in the area. Danville boasts some of the most beautiful architecture in the South. You'll see many old mansions built by 19th-century industry barons. Don't miss the Danville Museum of Fine Arts & History, an Italian villa which hosted Jefferson Davis and the Confederate government for a week in 1865. It was here that Davis learned of Lee's surrender. Rich in history and outdoor activities, you will enjoy close proximity to all the things to do in Danville, VA during your stay at the Hampton Inn.
