Abingdon Episcopal Church is located on Rt. 17 almost midway between Gloucester Courthouse and Gloucester Point. This rare cruciform colonial church which replaced an earlier church in the same location was completed in 1755 and underwent major restoration in 1986. It is one of 8 churches of colonial Virginia, it has brick wall over 2 feet thick, laid in Flemish-bond, a unique three tiered pulpit and magnificent pipe organ. Abingdon Church is the largest colonial church in Virginia and the third largest in all the colonies. Adjacent cemetery contains grave stones dating from the mid 1600's.

The Botetourt Building is the home of the Gloucester Museum of History. The Botetourt Building, formally the Botetourt Hotel, was built in the late 18th century as a roadside tavern, or ordinary, and was known as John New's Ordinary. The Colonial Gloucester County records of 1802 show the owner as Phillip Tabb of Toddsbury. It was one of the largest of the few brick taverns surviving from the pre-Revolutionary period. The building is said to have been named for Lord Botetourt Norborne Berkeley, Baron of Botetourt, sent from Gloucester, England to be Governor of Virginia.

Historic Rosewell includes the ruins of one of the finest mansions built in the colonies. It sits on the banks of the York River in Gloucester County, Virginia. Here, you may see the brick work and grace of form and scale which have inspired poets and architects since Thomas Jefferson was president. Begun in 1725, Rosewell was home to the Page family for more than 100 years. In 1916, a tragic fire swept the mansion, leaving a magnificent shell which is a testament to 18th century craftsmanship. What remains are the four chimneys, the east wall with its regal compass head window complete with a carved keystone, the wine cellar, and enough of the walls that one may sense the proportion and scale of this unique structure. Rosewell is near Williamsburg, Yorktown, and Jamestown. Picnic tables and open spaces invite families to spend the day together in the beauty of rural Gloucester County and in the shadow of the 18th century.

Located at the Intersection of Rt. 616 and 614, Walter Reed’s birthplace is a small mid 19th century building authentically furnished. It is significant because it represents the early, small, rural dwellings once so common to Tidewater, Virginia. It’s a one story, three-bay, frame gable-roofed dwelling covered with white weather boarding and set on short brick piers. Reverend Lemuel Reed lived here with his family for a short time during his service as minister of the Methodist Church circuit in Gloucester. His fifth child, Walter Reed (1851-1902) later became a doctor and while a member of the Army Medical Corps conquered Yellow Fever. Now owned and maintained by A.P. VA.
