Guests to the Hampton Inn hotel in Martinsville will find an intriguing mix of old and new things to do in Martinsville, VA. On the old side, visit Mabry Mill, a grist mill built in 1910 that provides one of the best photo opportunities in the state. The Virginia Museum of Natural History is new, having opened its doors in 2007. Their allosaurus skeleton is pretty old-14 million years, in fact. Race fans will find much to celebrate near our hotel in Martinsville. The Martinsville Speedway, founded a year before NASCAR began, is an old-style oval-yet one of the most popular in the country. The Virginia International Raceway, reopened after a 26-year hiatus, has a long and amazing history. Some of the biggest legends in racing history have made appearances on this track: Carroll Shelby and Roger Penske, to name two. Lastly, if you love nature, get out to Philpott Lake, Staunton River State Park, or Fairy Stone State Park.
